Class Assignments are listed below the schedule. The percentage given to each Assignment corresponds with the time required to complete it. I will provides details on the Assignment as the class goes along.

Assignment 1. Due 09/13/02. Picking a Business[10% of grade] 1. Pick a business that you are intersted in 2. Pick a location (city) in which you will open your business. This is very important because it will dictate which government to get your permit information from. 3. Tell me why youare picking this business.
This is suppose to be an easy assignment to get you started, but remember tat this is the busines that all future assignments will be based upon so think it through before deciding.
There is no length requirement.
This is to let me know where everyone will be going.
Also you can use the information from page #1 from your book to assist you.
Assignment 2. Due 09/27/02. Business Plan[15% of grade] (step 2) 1. From page 5 & 6 in your book, complete the tasks #1 (business goals and objectives), #2 (business 'playing field'), #4 (capital start-up needs and sources) & compile it as required in #5 (business plan document) listed in "essentails of the plan." When answering the questions from book for this Assignment you will need to make a detailed analysis. For example, for the business that you choose in Assignment #1, you will now need to research your competition. This is local and state, and possibly regional if applicable. There are books in the library and on the Internet to assist in your market analysis. Pages 6 & 7 in your book provide additional assistance.
Assignment 3. Due 10/12/02. Bank loans & the SBA[10% of grade] (step 3) This assignment exposes you to the loan process. For this assignment you will be required to gather the following information: [1] From a commercial bank of your choice, get the necessary forms and find out what information they would require from you to obtain a loan. [2] From the SBA, get the necessary forms and find out what information they would require from you to obtain a loan. There a many types of SBA loans, so find oout which ones would be available to you. There are MANY![1] From the Utah Technology Finance Corporation (UTFC), get the necessary forms and find out what information they would require from you to obtain a loan. This is an independant organization so the proceedures will be different.
Assignment 4. Due 10/26/02. Business structures[15% of grade] Within your book there are various business structures to choose from. For example: Partnership & Corporations. This is what you need to do: [1] Choose of these structures and tell me why you have choose this structure. [2] Then fill out and your organization papers. This includes applicable stock distribution, directors, ect.
Assignment 5. Due 11/09/02. Local Government Requirements - Licenses[20% of grade] For this one: Find what licenses you need from the city where you pick to place your business. This is simply the local busines permits and other licenses (depending on your type of business).
Assignment 6. Due 11/23/02. State Government Requirements[15% of grade] This one, like the one above, is simply the necessary filing with the state. What are the requirements for the State of Utah (permits and licenses).
Assignment 7. Due 12/14/02. Bankruptcy and credit[15% of grade] Part 1 - What Chapters of bankruptcy are available to businesses. That means if your business gets into financial trouble, which Chapters can you choose from. List the chapters and describe both. Part 2 - What kind of credit scores do you need to get small business loans. With this, list the three credit reporting agencies (most lenders will give you this information). Also what kind of information hurts or helps your credit scores?
